Northumbria Healthcare is England's most northerly NHS trust, and one of its largest. Stretching from the banks of the Tyne up to the Scottish borders, including North Tyneside and the whole of the county of Northumberland, the trust serves a population of about 500,000 people. Northumbria Healthcare was established in 1998 with the merger of three former NHS trusts. It has responsibility for managing three major hospitals in North Tyneside, Hexham and Wansbeck along with a host of smaller cottage and town hospitals across the area and at the Cobalt Business Park. The trust has around 7,500 employees.
